Susan's Class

We finished the first week of Susan's ARW class.

We studied the Shannon and bioethics and I was given the article about the quality of mercy killing.

I thought Roswell's action wasn't good because he killed her wife without listening to her opinion, but it was obvious that he didn't have the ill-willed, so he should be decreased the penalty.

I have nothing which couldn't understand:)

Wednesday was the last ARW class, but I was really late for the class. Other section mates discussed the content of Gould, Shreeve and Diamond. Actually, I hardly remember the content of them, but I could reviewed all of them by PWT test.

I liked Rab's class very much because he taught us the IT tool and the importance of critical thinking! They are both very useful!!! In addition, his way of teaching is very fun! He showed many videos, held many interesting discussions and he let us write any academic kinds of essays!! It was very difficult for me, but it was also challenging during gathering information! Rab was the fabulous teacher for me!!! Thank you, Rab!!

Monday's ARW class

We discussed the construction of Diamond's article. Rab said his style was so unusual because he claimed the positive side of the something,but he denied them finally and repeated it again and again.

I don't like his style because it made me very irritated because I hate repeating the same thing many time. So, I wrote my essay Rab's style.

Friday's ARW class

We discussed the analogy. It is used when we want to explain something that everyone can agree with. However, we also tend to use it in arguing. Rab explained it to us by giving an example of water versus coca-cola and wool versus nylon. He said water is better for our health than cola, but we cannot say that natural is better than artificial because although wool is natural -made, but some people have allergy to them. I completely understood this story, but I couldn't understand the definition of explain, analogy and argue. So Rab explained to us again by using the arm-wrestling between the old man and young black guy. But I couldn't understand it completely. However, Rab's acting was very interesting!XD

Wednesday's ARW Class

We saw a documentary program about the terrible treatment of Iraq by US. They took a big bite of Iraq's national budget. In addition, because they didn't build neat hospitals, many patients die. A journarist pointed out it, to my surprise, the ambassador of US in Iraq replied "It was a past matter." How does he regard Iraq? They are the same people as him.

Rab said US uses Iraq as the opportunity to get the money because they are not white, but I don't think so. The reason why I think so is that after W.W.Ⅱ, US took over Japan and implement a lot of actions. Thanks to them, Japan could become one of the advanced countries in the world. So I think the quality of restructuring depends on the quality of government which occupy other countries.

Wednesday's ARW Class

We discussed the race of people which were on the pictures. I found it is totally difficult to determine them. For example, the elder man who looked like a farmer, I thought he was an American because my image of American farmers were just looked like him. However, Rab said he was an Yugoslav. Anna said he was a Swiss, but he said Swiss has little plain. We must identify their nationality or race after looking the background of them.

We also discussed who was the most beautiful person of the pictures. My group chose a black man because his body line was beautiful (Kyoko said) and I thought he was sexy, too. Rab said environment also influence on our aesthetics. For example, if sexy black guy wears the clothes and hides his body, I may be not chose him as the most beautiful person.

Like that, race was more complicated than I thought.

Monday's ARW Class

We discussed whether President Obama was white or black and why he put stress on black. Rab said it was because if he says he was a white, people get disappointed with him because the need change. I think it is a strong statement, but I also think he wants to emphasis that black people, now can everything what they want. Obama gave them numerous hope to them.

And we discussed the article of Nikon. I did not read it, so Naoko, Takahoshi and Yoshimi told me its content.

Friday's ARW Class

We watched the documentary video whose content was the treatment of Arabs in Hollywood movies. There are many scene Arabs are bad guys. However, I thought there were some movies that it was strange if the heels were other race. For example, Aladdin, whose locale was Arab, so it was natural that Jafar was an Arab.

I think most of of Arabian countries are bad terms with America, so American made them heel in their movies, but it is obviously hypocritical because American also do terrible things toward Arabs as we saw in the movie. So they revenge other innocent American by terrorism. Such a circle of hatred causes a war. Both of them must forgive each other.

Today's ARW class

Today, I was late for the class! I'm so sorry!!!!

We discussed the beauty, but it was too difficult for me to think about because I could only think beaut is unfair.

By the next class, I want to think more academic idea!

Wednesday's ARW class

I missed it, so I don't know what BF section members did, but I reviewed Barna.
I couldn't write the neat essay in Monday's class, so I had to study, but I had a fever, after all, I could do nothing.
I wish the typhoon came tomorrow!!

Friday's ARW class

We prepared for the PWT test. We shared the opinion with the one who was a stranger. My partner was Yoshimi and she gave me a lot of useful information!

Yesterday's ARW

We learned the outline of Birk and Birk.
When we see a thing very close, we can see it in detail, but when we look at it for a distance, we can its whole picture. We can say that about invisible and abstract things such as culture.
Next week's Friday, we will have a PWT test, so I must do careful reading!!

Yesterday's ARW class

We learned how to write essay, especially the construction of paragraph.

Also, we learned the concept of Birk and we admired or criticized Rab's bag.

My group criticized it, but in fact, I like his bag.

9/30 ARW class

Today, we discussed the topic of the essay and Rab taught us how to write it.

First, I decided to write about Mongol invasion attempts against Japan, but section mates wrote very academical topic "death penalty", so I decided to write "Is Japan really an independent country?"

ARW class in 9/28

We get burned by Rab!!!!! He seemed very angry, but it was an acting. He was very charming! He taught us that the difference of perception before he disclosing and after.
After that, we did a psychological test. I think it reflected my character very well :)

9/25 ARW class

Today, Bill showed some illusionisms.

I went to Trick art exhibit with BF section mates, so I was sure of finding all tricks, but I couldn't.

I keenly thought that we must clear away all stereotypes to find out tricks or truth.

Monday's ARW class

We reviewed that how to add on many add on such as rikaicyan. Also, we copied the firefox to our USB. After doing that, we discussed the question which is about Barna.

9/18 ARW's class

I learned how to share my works with BF section mates.

Google document is very convenient because it does not need to save frequently.

Writing book review is harder than I thought because I forgot a part of its content.

I must read it again.

Today's ARW class

Today, I learned how to write essay more academic and the problem which caused because of cultural difference.

I keenly thought that we do not understand other culture very well although today is what is called "international" world.

For example, I did not know Moslem females must hide their face.

Actually, I could not answer the work sheet "WHAT WENT WRONG" very well.

I must understand other culture very well if I really wish to understand English.

What I learned yesterday's ARW

I learned that I tend to forget many things easily.

For example, I forgot to upload my photo and my wallet so I let my friend to borrow money.

I make a habit to take a memo, but I even forget to look at my memo.

So, I'll write it on my hand so that I don't forget to look.

Rab said "Japanese students don't listen to other's speech" and this is not always true, but at least, I'm a very Japanese who don't listen to others because it is the same thing don't listen and forget what I heard.

What I learned today's class

I learned that I didn't understand how to use google efficiently.

for example, I didn't know how to search many things quickly by using options.

I must do it again!!!
